Book About:

"Brain death is a kind of death in which heart continues beating for a few days after the brain is destroyed. It is very difficult for the family to believe that their loved one is dead especially because of the heartbeat and breath-like movements which are generated by breathing machines. On the other hand, because of the brain destruction many toxins are released from the brain tissue and make other body cells die. In Iran and many other countries, transplant coordinator is the one who has to break this very bad news to the family and take the family's consent for organ donation and in some other countries the physician is responsible for the first part. Family interview is a science consisted of sociology, psychology, and public relations and has to be learned. However, every country or even every state of a country might have different cultures and beliefs and have to be approached differently. Dr. Omid Ghobadi, the main author of this book, has passed the Masters course of organ and tissue donation in Spain and after coming back to Iran has started working with organ donor coordinators, reviewing all the brain death family refusal cases and with roll playing and discussion has found the different family concerns for organ donation and their suggested solutions. In this way, he had added 40 techniques to the world techniques of brain dead family interview. By teaching these methods to coordinators, the rate of family consent in that specific organ procurement organization increased from 60 to 96.3 percent. These techniques are not only taught to our coordinators but also to other countries' coordinators in TPM courses by him and are gathered in the present book. This book was written to help all coordinators worldwide improve their knowledge about brain dead family interview. According to Dr. Marti Manyalich (president of TPM-DTI foundation) and our knowledge, there is no other book explaining all the family interview techniques and giving solutions for all of family refusal causes. "
