The vast country of Iran with an old history consists valuable monuments which have registered the glorious culture, art and civilization of human being and due to this, she has the best conditions and the most valuable aspects of tourism for various nations. In this respect, Fars province allocates the most portion of having the human being civilization sites, one of which is the Naqsh-e Rostam monument, that represents the sculptures from Elamite, Achaemenid and Sassanid periods on mountain and rock as one of the unique and the most beautiful stonemasonary masterpieces of historical periods which encourages every visitor to admire it.

A. Shapur Shahbazi was born in Shiraz and received of London. He founded the Institute of Achaenemid Research at Persepolis in 1974 and served as its Director till 1979. He has taught at the universities of Shiraz, Tehran, Gottingen, Harvard, Colombia, and Eastern Oregon. As a world renown scholar, he is the author of 18 books and 180 articles in English, Persian and German. His books include Cyrus the Great (Shiraz1970), The Reigne of Darius the Great (Tehran 1971), The Old Persian Inscription of Persepolis Platform (London 1985), Ferdowsi: A Critical Biography (Harvard University Press 1991) and Persepolis Illustrated. His other book is "The Autoritative Guide of Naqsh-e Rostam, the present book, and his latest book is "The Extensive History of Sassanians" both in Persian. He was the advisor of the Center of Academic Publication and the editorial member of the Bulletin of Archaeology and History and the Ancient Iran Nameh. He was recently a Senior Research Scholar at Columbia University and served as the Advisor to the newly constituted Foundation for the Parsa-Pasargadae Research. Unfortunately, he died in 2006.
