About the Book:
Ing with K, goes farther back in history and narrates the story of the Qajar princes. Whatever the author describes in the novel can be found in Qajar history books, but imagination has found a wider area to go about and the author freely impresses the prominent Zeitgeist on the subconscious mind of the reader by bringing together live images and through the magic of words. But the characters no longer have a corresponding accurate real-world doppelganger. Babri Khan, Naser Al-Din Shah’s favorite cat, is an excuse to build on the character of Alijah, who carries the spirit of the great prince within himself. Jeyran becomes a deer and Anis Al-Doleh, who accompanied Naser al-Din Shah to St. Petersburg and had to return, becomes one of the harem’s nameless concubines.
From the first chapter to the end, periods of the contemporary Iranian history such as the reign of Reza Shah and the removal of women’s veils, World War I and the fall of Reza Shah, reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, land reforms, the expansion of urban space and construction in that era, and the destruction of rural and pristine spaces, the political struggles before and after the revolution and even the Imposed War and the present time are reviewed in chronological order.
The present book about the revolution, titled Ing Without K, is the second novel for adults by Mohammad Kazem Mazinani after King Without K. Ing Without K is the story of a leftist revolutionary fighter with a communist mindset that begins at the 40s when the main character of the story is born and continues till 2012. The novel typically points out the inherent generational contradictions and differences between the main character and his child. The novel looks from bottom to top and actually, it is narrated in the context of fiction and imagination. The book Ing Without K provides the reader with good information, especially the author’s knowledge is revealed better in the fields of anthropology and sciences that are less accessible to you.
The author has researched historical matters before writing his story, and the work is a trilogy. While Ing Without K is mainly related to the past and goes across several generations, the author’s writing style is such that there seems to be no flashbacks or orifices opening to the past. Ing Without K is the story of the fate of a nation that on the eve of its social upheaval, rises from grassroots, fights corruption, and ultimately kneels before the logic of the reality of the “proponents of these”.
Book Expert:
. . . The prince’s seed was planted in this same mansion, in this same five-door room, at the foot of plasterwork reliefs and the mirror-work ceiling, as the seed of another daughter and seventeen sons by concubines and married women, the sky of the mansion’s built space, women with silk wedding dress and charming scallop collar, on a Turkmen rug with two gazelles stuck between its silk rows for two hundred years and could not get anywhere no matter how long they ran . . .
