Book About:
The Cold Suran is about soldiers serving at two bases in the western part of the country. The whole region and these two bases are nearly falling, and one of the two bases actually falls, and in the other one, there is a spy who starts spying for the counter-revolutionary network and the Komala group. Without giving away his cover, he begins to spy for the counter-revolutionary network and the Komala group. One of the characters of the story who had been involved in those events enters the Suran region after 5 years. Looking for that spy, he enters the area and relives his memories, until . . .
The novel The Cold Suran is a tale of war, but in addition to Iran - Iraq war, shows the images of two more wars to the reader, the war of man with nature, and the war of man with carnal desires. In this novel, Afhami portrays the cold and deadly winter in the Suran region so masterfully that the audience feels the cold to his bone marrow. On the other hand, the book deals with the fears and doubts of the people who are experiencing carnal desires and worldly attachments. However, the novel The Cold Suran praises faith and willpower; the faith and willpower of the soldiers who do not bow to the cruel and reckless nature and restrain themselves. Afhami narrated that all without falling into the trap of slogans and generalities. Instead, with a very detailed and articulated style, he draws Suran’s map in the mind of the audience and then steps aside to allow the reader to judge this gruesome battle between good and evil. In other words, the adventures that take place in The Cold Suran story are pristine and have a fresh subject matter. The author’s point of view is not biased, and this arouses empathy and sympathy of the reader.
In the novel, we see that the Sina character is pumped into the audience’s head with a really strong beat, and this character shows you the face of Holy Defense; such that he prays in bad situations. If a member of the opposition would have written this book, he would ruin the Sina character so much that it would lose its current luster, while in this novel, the author was aware of the sanctity of the character.
The novel The Cold Suran is Javad Afhami’s first novel and has been nominated for some awards including the Book of the Season Award and the Golden Pen Award and has been rated first as the book of the year at Shahid Ghani Pour Festival. This book is a complex account of the war in the western parts of the country and has a non-linear structure.
Book Expert:
Saeed looked behind him, at the thick fog that the wind occasionally scattered away, and at the mud houses that were built at the distance on the gentle slope of a hill, and each one was built over the roof of the other.
“Will it snow?” he asked.
“Yes, maybe,” replied the village headman, “When it snows, the wolves climb the mountain.”
