Book Expert:
“We have heard that Ilam women have protected the city against the Monafeghs’ occupation. We went to Ilam’s female Basij center. The Basij building was not damaged. The Basij sisters were very pleased to see us. There were about twenty women. We sat down and asked about the incident. They explained it as such, “When the Monafeghs were moving toward Ilam, the men decided to leave the city and block their way and prevent them from entering the city. We sat behind the machine guns and loaded our G-3 and Colt guns and defended the city. They did not know whether a man or a woman was behind the machine gun. We were shooting so that they do not think the city was empty. We kept watching till morning. We shot some of them too. That is how we did not allow them to enter our town.”
