He was born on September 24, 1902 in the city of Khomein in the Markazi province. His father and forefathers were religious scholars. Ayatollah Khomeini was the founder and the first leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran. He was the main source of emulation for the Shia in his lifetime. Ayatollah Khomeini is recognized as one of the most prominent contemporary Muslim scholars. He passed away in 1989.
