The authenticity of the tradition has always been a matter of great controversies among Muslim scholars. Having reviewed the viewpoints of its opponents and proponents, the author of this books proposes a theory called “Framework and Level Theory” which divides the tradition into three types of consisting, opposing and neutral with regard to the holy Quran, elaborating each in terms of the framework designed. Examining the authenticity of the AhlulBayt Tradition constitutes another chapter of this book which follows the same framework as applied to the previous one. Here, taking the Sunnis resources into consideration, the author proves that the belief in the authenticity of the Shiite tradition is derived from the Prophet Muhammad’s tradition. However, the authenticity of the Shiite tradition faces such challenges as inconsistency with the principle that Prophet Muhammad is the last divine prophet, the fact that the infallible Imams have not been mentioned by name in the holy Quran, and some internal inconsistencies within Imamate Doctrine, some of which are answered in this book. Chapter 3 of the current books discusses the important issue of the validation of the tradition which starts with reviewing the background of recording the tradition (Hadith) among the Islamic sects, examining the most important figures and books in this regard. Then, the most important issue in this section, i.e. the critique of the tradition is presented, discussing the hadith-related drawbacks in turn and offering the author’s chosen view based on “Framework and Level Theory” according to which the authentic hadiths are regarded as a valid source for inferring and enforcing Islamic laws only if they are proven as consistent with the overall frameworks derived from valid Sharia sources such as the holy Quran, authentic tradition, and the reason. Moreover, our reasons must be aligned with our claims. In other words, the more significant and stronger the content of our reasons are, the more authentic hadiths should be relied on. In the “Framework and Level Theory” the assessment of the level of authenticity of the hadiths plays a key role; that’s why the concluding part of the book discusses the measurements for the authenticity level of the hadiths in two different sections as the evidence-based measurements and the scripture-based ones. This book is highly recommended for those who resort to the hadiths in religious theory building.
