Book About:

Up until he got to Shiraz, Uwais was mad at himself for not doing something for the fox; he had acted so ignorantly, leaving his wounded friend on the side of a road to die gradually. He then called a vet and explained the accident in detail for him. The vet said that if the kick was not a bad one, any kind of fracture will heal itself, and that he has nothing to worry about; but if the fracture keeps the animal from walking and finding food, it will eventually die of hunger or will be eaten by other animals. The day after, Uwais was returning from Shiraz, and had brought a bottle of water and a dead chicken with him. He drove slowly and pulled over on the dirt road. He looked for the fox among the bushes. It had left. He followed the footsteps and, a hundred meters away, he got to the animal’s den. He sat down and stared at the dark hole. He saw two shining spots at the end of the dark. He started whistling with his fingers, like the sound of the fife. He had to make the animal come close. The two shining spots moved. He took a knife out of his pocket, cut a piece of the chicken and threw it in the hole. The two shining spots got to the chicken piece and he saw the fox’s muzzle. It was for sure so hungry; it tore the chicken apart and swallowed it. Uwais cut another piece and threw it; this time closer to himself, though. The fox crawled out and got the piece again. The animal had to come closer to Uwais with each piece. It came so close that Uwais could feel its breath on his skin now. The fox was now fully out in the daylight, in front of Uwais, as beautiful as he had always seen it from afar.
