Book About:

The book “Women's Rights in the Conflict of Tradition and Modernity” should be considered as one of the efforts of Iranian religious intellectuals, which have been carried out in the domain of "Islamic Protestantism." The image of the "existing Muslim woman" -which has been confirmed by the votes and jurisprudence as "the desirable image of a Muslim woman" - is in fact an image of the "reality of Muslim societies" and not the "Islamic truth" which the Quran and Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) have sought after. The book “Women's Rights in the Conflict of Tradition and Modernity” shows us two types of "images" of "Muslim women from the viewpoint of the Quran": First, the "essential" and fundamental image of the woman is the same as the man’s image in "the sight of God". In the Quran, God does not have a "male" and "patriarchal" nature in contrast to the Christian tradition. On the other hand, the creation of men and women is by the same material, which the Quran calls “single soul”. Additionally, believing women and men are in the Quran “friends” of each other and are equal and, in the end, God does not distinguish between them in terms of the value of “religious life”. But the second image of a woman in the Quran is not a "fundamental" image, but an “earthly” (not intrinsic) image of a woman, only through which the Quran outlines the status or customary rights of women in society and among the people of Saudi Arabia in the time of the Quran's descent. These people had a “patriarchal social and legal system”.
