Liberty and Captivity in Language and Other Essays includes essays, writings, talks and a translation of a prominent linguist, the late prof. Hormoz Milanian, published in different journals and books from 1969/1348 to 2005/1384. In “Said by Milanian” and “The Brief History of Teaching Linguistics in Iran”, prof. Milanian describes in detail his life and works.

Hormoz Milanian (1937-2014) was the professor in linguistics at Tehran University, and taught Persian language and literature at Sorbonne University as a visiting professor from 1979 to 1985.
