Book About:

Allegory, Illusion and Exegesis are considered three different approaches in Sufi epistemology. "Illusion" brings forth a well-formed souvenir from the form-less World through strutting in the desert of “meaning” and thus brings down transcendental meanings. In the process of illusion, it is only with the help of allegory that unique meanings can be embodied. Allegory, on the one hand, is related to meaning and on the other to form. Thus, the language of allegory is mystical. Exegesis, however, is an unavoidable approach in mystical understanding. It has a reverse process. Whatever illusion has embodied from meaning with the help of allegory, exegesis transcends it (the form) to its original position so as to make understanding complete.
