Vegetation type of Gilan province is mapped and documented as a result of a comprehensive national project titled “Recognition of Iranian ecological zones”. Gilan province area is 1471551.8 hectares, located on 36˚-36′ to 38˚-27′ N and 48˚- 21′ to 50˚-26′ E. On the basis of physiognomy and floristic status of the vegetation, rangelands of the district are segmented into vegetation types. Results of the study show that the area of Gilan rangelands is 325152 hectares. Rangelands district are classified as 34 vegetation types.
