“The Legend of the Businessman’s Daughter” is an Iranian folkloric legend that has been narrated and written in different narrative forms and under different names. This legend is the story of a very beautiful, wise and intelligent daughter of a rich businessman. The girl’s parents and brother went to Hajj and they ask the Judge of their village who was appreciated and trusted by the village residents to take care of her until they would be back. The Judge became interested in her and while the girl’s lack of interest to him and necessity of her parents’ permission for her marriage, he insisted on marrying her. The wise girl, by using her intelligence, could manage to get rid of the Judge’s plan and disgraced him. After returning to the girl’s family, the Judge tried to mar her characteristic so to take revenge on the girl and to exonerate himself, he told wrong things about that innocent girl to her father and brother and caused them to be suspicious about her. The businessman’s daughter sad and upset had to leave her father’s home and set out and adventurous trip. She had to refer to different people for finding a shelter and earning her livelihood in disguise of men. Finally, she found a job in an inn and after a while with a well-designed plan, she would manage to disrepute the Judge and prove the truth to her parents and brother. When the owner of the inn recognized her real face as he was under the influence of her wisdom and intelligence, he became interested in her and proposed her from her father. The businessman’s daughter married to the inn owner and they lived happily ever after.

Mitra Zarif keyvan (1987-Tehran) Mitra was born in Tehran. She, with her 2 daughters, immigrated to Germany in 1987 and now is living in Dusseldorf. As an artist, besides painting and teaching that, she narrates legends, writes poems and writes, illustrates and reads books for children. This German resident writer has published 4 folkloric stories in the bilingual form of German and Farsi. She is active in the way of expanding Iran’s culture.
